STU BUTTERFIELD

STU BUTTERFIELD - Jazz Drummer

Drummer, Stu Butterfield has been a well established and highly regarded player on the UK scene since the late sixties. Despite a lengthy period away from music, over the last ten years or so he has proven that he is back with a vengence!

Since 1999 he has been part of The Henry Lowther-Jim Mullen Quartet, which also features bassist Dave Green, and which recorded Fungii Mama in 2002 and toured nationally to great success.
He is also a founder member of the The Strayhorn Project which was formed in 2003 specifically to perform the less frequently heard compositions of Billy Strayhorn. Phil Lee is the guitarist and musical director, and Canadian tenor saxophonist, Steve Kaldestad, and bassist Oli Hayhurst complete the Quartet. Multicoloured Blue is the title of the Quartet's first CD, recorded 'live' and with the support of Jazz Services the band is on tour in Sep/Oct 2004.
