Thornton Heath Recreation Ground Community Garden

THE COMMUNITY GARDEN

The Rec has a Community Garden! The garden was started by Croydon Transition Town who were invited to set-up their first community garden in the park by Shasha Khan, Green Party spokesman and member of the Friends of Thornton Heath Rec. We grow vegetables and flowers in the south west corner of the rec by the bowling club. Volunteers are always welcome on a regular or 'ad hoc' basis. Please come by and say "Hello". We meet on Sundays at 2pm.

Right now is planting time so it's a great opportunity for parents to bring their children along to have fun, help plant, and learn where the food they eat comes from.

An orchard was planted last year with the help of The Urban Orchard Project comprising of ten fruit trees. The trees are just going into bud for the first time. We have also planted wild flowers in the playing field just outside the main garden.

Please email for more information.
